Sign, Sign, Everywhere a Sign!

Do this / don't do that / can't you read the signs?!?

Firsthand is committed to creating exceptional art and craft markets that showcase the talents of our vendors. We're always looking for ways to improve the shopper experience and make our events more successful for everyone involved. That's why we're introducing a new requirement for our vendors: professional display signage in every booth.

Beginning in 2023, all vendors will be required to have a professional sign displayed in their booth that indicates their brand name or art logo, in addition to contact information in the form of a website URL or social media handle. This requirement is designed to help shoppers easily identify and remember your brand, and to facilitate follow-up communication after the event. Signs must be at least six square feet in size (e.g., a 2' x 3' banner).

We understand that creating a professional sign may be a new task for some vendors, so we wanted to provide some guidance and resources to help you get started. First and foremost, your sign should be clear, easy to read, and visually appealing. You want it to stand out and attract shoppers to your booth. Here are some tips for creating a great sign:

  • Choose a font that is legible and consistent with your brand aesthetic.

  • Use high-quality materials that will withstand the elements and last for multiple events.

  • Consider adding graphics or images that showcase your products or services.

  • Keep the message simple and focused on your brand name and contact information.

If you're not sure where to start, there are many online resources available that can help you design and create a professional sign. Some popular options include Vistaprint, 48 Hour Print, UPrinting and others.

While we understand that our vendors are skilled artisans and makers who enjoy creating almost everything from scratch, in most cases we discourage making your own signage. There are, of course, many exceptions to this, but a handmade sign may not convey the professional image that you want to project to customers, and it may not be as durable or effective as a professionally-printed sign. If you're unsure about your own sign, send us a photo and ask us!

We want to ensure that all of our vendors are presenting their brands in the best possible light, and a signage is a crucial component of that. If you have any questions about the new signage requirement or need help designing your sign, please don't hesitate to reach out to our team. We're here to support you and help you succeed at our markets.

We believe that this new requirement will benefit both our vendors and shoppers by enhancing the overall experience of our events. We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to seeing your professional signage at our upcoming markets.
